How to prepare your home for a puja in Ontario

4 min read

A home puja needs very little space. A clean corner facing east or north, a low table or wooden plank, and room for the family to sit comfortably is enough for most rituals.

In a condo, check whether your unit has a sensitive smoke alarm before a homa. Many buildings allow a small sacred fire when the kitchen exhaust is running and a window is open, and some ask for advance notice at the front desk. A short call to property management the week before avoids surprises on the day.

Wear traditional clothing if you have it, and keep the space free of footwear. Ask elders in the family to sit closest to the altar, and keep young children nearby so they can watch and take part.

Send me a photo of the space on WhatsApp and I will tell you exactly what to arrange, so nothing is missing when the ritual begins.
