Significance of this ritual
Mahalaya Paksha is the fortnight given entirely to the ancestors. Offerings made in these days are held to reach all the pitrus of the family, including those whose tithi is unknown.
How the ritual is performed
Daily or selected day tarpan through the paksha, with sankalpa, sesame and water offerings to three generations, and the fuller observance with pinda on Mahalaya Amavasya.
When it is observed
Through the fifteen days of Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha, ending on Mahalaya Amavasya, as dated in the Toronto panchangam.
