Mahalaya Paksha Tarpan

महालय पक्ष तर्पण

Tarpan through the fortnight of Mahalaya Paksha, culminating in Mahalaya Amavasya.

Significance of this ritual

Mahalaya Paksha is the fortnight given entirely to the ancestors. Offerings made in these days are held to reach all the pitrus of the family, including those whose tithi is unknown.

How the ritual is performed

Daily or selected day tarpan through the paksha, with sankalpa, sesame and water offerings to three generations, and the fuller observance with pinda on Mahalaya Amavasya.

When it is observed

Through the fifteen days of Bhadrapada Krishna Paksha, ending on Mahalaya Amavasya, as dated in the Toronto panchangam.

What families can expect

  • One observance that covers all the pitrus
  • Right for families unsure of a tithi
  • Flexible to the days you are able to keep
  • Guidance on the right muhurta using the Toronto panchangam.
  • Clear preparation notes for your home or hall before the ritual.
  • Mantras chanted with correct pronunciation and meaning explained.
  • Rituals conducted for families across Canada and USA, in person or online.
